Do you work from home? Practice Pilates to improve your wellbeing
34% of companies state they predict that more than half of their full-time employees will be working from home by 2020. That’s a staggering figure…
So what has this got to do with Pilates?
With the expected increase in the number of people working from home, and the potential pitfalls of remote working in mind, it's more important than ever to counterbalance remote working with activities that will boost your social wellbeing. Have you considered Pilates?
There are two key ways Pilates can help you overcome or avoid loneliness working from home.
1) Combat social isolation
One of the hardest things about working from home can be the isolation involved. With no face-to-face interaction during the working day, social confidence can be decreased resulting in communication struggles. Pilates can help combat this. By attending Pilates classes, you will be around a group that shares the same passion and interests.
Not only do you benefit from having a change of scene or at least a change of conversation topic, but you will also gain a sense of community in a social atmosphere. By attending regular Pilates classes, you’ll be able to chat to some other attendees from your local area, giving your social life a boost. Working from home won't seem as bad when you've got a Pilates class with friends to look forward to.
2) Increase your daily wellbeing
It's a worrying prospect that remote working is likely to make workers more sedentary. Our wellbeing, both physically and mentally, is essential for a sound body and mind. If this wellbeing is affected by a lack of movement – remote workers have no reason to commute, for example – then it could be detrimental to all aspects of our lives.
By attending Pilates classes, you engage with an active, fluid form of exercise that strengthens muscles throughout your body. You're likely to become fitter and more toned. Pilates isn't just good for your physical self, either; exercise is known to release endorphins helping improve your mental wellbeing too.
Pilates: the solution to remote working isolation and inactivity
Whether you want to improve your social wellbeing or wellbeing in a holistic sense – or both – joining a Pilates class is a great step to take. And you don’t even need to leave your home if you don't want to or perhaps you're unable to.
With all the information you have at your fingertips, you could actually practice Pilates in the safety of your own home and still become part of a community – online.
