Improve your Pilates at home with these 4 tips
Whether you can’t make it to the gym today, you prefer home workouts, or you just want to get more Pilates practice in away from your classes, why not improve your Pilates at home? It can be fantastic for giving your life that little extra health boost it needs.
Practicing Pilates at home allows you to practice daily (or at least a few times a week). Here are some top tips that you can follow to help get the most out of your Pilates at home.
Remove any distractions
Focus on your routine and get the most out of it. You need to make sure that Pilates is the only thing on your mind during this time. This means making sure the kids are at school or occupied, you get someone-else to take the dog out for a walk and be sure your phone is set to silent. Ideally, find yourself a quiet space in the house, where you won't be disturbed.
Always start with the basics
Regardless of what skill level you are, it’s important that you always start your routine as you would in a class session, with the basics. This is crucial in helping you build a long term foundation on which you can achieve proper unity of mind, body and spirit.
Don't take it too seriously
Pilates is a great way to release your tension and it’s important you don’t take yourself too seriously. It's more important that you remember to breathe than it is to get down on yourself if you can't recall how the teacher cues you normally. Also, take the chance, whilst you’re in the privacy of your own home to try some of those moves that you find challenging in class and have a bit of fun with it.
Make Pilates part of your daily routine
There’s no reason you should have to limit Pilates to when you’re in a class. Instead, you can incorporate it into your daily life. You can focus on Pilates centring techniques throughout the day as well as focusing on your breathing any time you feel stressed. Eventually, you will come to harness the mental and muscular control gained from Pilates sessions and use it in all aspects of your daily life.
Following these top tips will not only help you get the most out of your practice, but it will leave you feeling energised, happy and empowered for the rest of your day. Regular Pilates will improve your mental wellbeing as well as your physical strength, so make use of practice at home in between your Pilates classes.
